Member Saturday: Scanned, Sealed, Delivered | Mail in Pennsylvania Prisons

Member Saturday: Scanned, Sealed, Delivered | Mail in Pennsylvania Prisons

Members only. Registration required. Hybrid.

In 2018, Pennsylvania became the first state in the nation to require all incoming prison mail to be sent out of state, scanned, printed, and then forwarded to its intended recipient. Incarcerated people have since reported poorly scanned, illegible letters, grainy black and white drawings from children, and missing mail pieces.

Join Damon McCool (Senior Specialist of Research and Public Programming) for a discussion about the complexities of the mail system in Pennsylvania prisons. Consider the impact of recently introduced procedures on incarcerated people’s ability to communicate with friends, family, and others on the outside. Then, write a postcard to someone incarcerated in Pennsylvania.

This event is free for all members. Capacity is limited, and advance registration is required. Members, reserve free tickets here.
