August Member Saturday: Yoga with Transformation Yoga Project

Matthew Engler, meditation teacher and yoga instructor for Transformation Yoga Project (TYP), began his meditation practice while in prison in 2005. As people began noticing changes in Matthew’s behavior they asked, “Can you show me how to meditate?” That’s how his teaching career began.

Join Matthew for a yoga session within the tall stone walls of Eastern State and experience the power of this meditative practice to help break down barriers. The session will draw upon attendees’ own personal experience and connection to the practice. Matthew believes we’ve all experienced meditative mind states throughout our lives. Through discussion, guided meditation, and contemplation, experience a practice that exemplifies peace & stillness.

Members with all levels of yoga experience or no prior experience are welcome. The session will take place outdoors. You may bring your own mat or reserve one for free from TYP. Chairs will also be made available as needed. Please be sure to indicate on the sign up form whether you will need a mat or chair when reserving your free tickets.

This event is free for all members. Reserve free tickets online at www.EasternState.org/MemberSaturday or call 215-236-5111 x224. Space is limited.

About Matthew:
Matthew became a certified yoga instructor in 2016 in TYP’s first Yoga Teacher Training at SCI Graterford. His formal teaching began after graduation, sharing classes in general population, the therapeutic community for drug & alcohol treatment, the SRTU (Secure Residential Treatment Unit), a level five secure mental health unit, and the RTU, a medium security mental health unit. This experience has drawn many people to the practice. In 2019 Matthew co-facilitated TYP’s third full yoga teacher training at SCI Phoenix, teaching others, including many of his own students, how to teach.
