Fire is one of the greatest threats any prison faces, whether caused by an accident or used as a tool for protest. Historically and today, fires have endangered the lives of both staff and incarcerated people who are inside of buildings designed to restrict free movement.

Join Eastern State staff for a tour and discussion about fires at Eastern State and learn more about how prisons attempt to navigate fire safety, containment, and effective emergency response procedures. Additionally, investigate historic firefighting related artifacts found within the penitentiary.
