Member Saturday: Getting Inked | Tattooing in Prisons

Members only. Registration required. In-Person.

Although illegal in U.S. prisons, tattooing has long been a fixture of prison life around the country. This underground art form has a complicated and multifaceted legacy—from the creative ways artists build and hide their contraband tattooing equipment to the elaborate (and sometimes controversial) artwork being inked on people’s bodies.

Come explore the fascinating world of prison tattooing with Eastern State staff and renowned local tattoo artist Myke Chambers. We’ll investigate the history of tattooing and tattoos at Eastern State, how tattooing occurs in prisons today, and the ingenuity required to be a successful tattoo artist behind bars.

This event is free for all members. Members, reserve free tickets here.
