Member Saturday: Eastern State Underground
Members only. Registration required.
Eastern State’s façade and revolutionary design have fascinated architects, criminologists, and visitors for almost 200 years, but lying just below the surface is a labyrinth of corridors, maintenance tunnels, and sewer lines, which are rarely seen by staff members or the public.
Join Tour Programs Supervisor Matt Murphy and Manager of Historic Preservation Liz Trumbull as we descend into the depths of Eastern State Penitentiary to unearth the history of its underground foundations, the fascinating story of the maintenance tunnels, and what surprises we find when we dig beneath the surface today.
Please note: Member Saturday events will be held online for the remainder of 2021. Registrants will receive a Zoom link via email. To ensure you receive this link, please try to register at least 24 hours prior to the start of the Member Saturday you plan to attend.
This event is free for all members. Reserve free tickets online or call 215-236-5111 x224. Space is limited.
