Member Night: Security, Surveillance, and Supervision

June 30, 2022, 7:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Member Night: Security, Surveillance, and Supervision

Members only. Registration required. In-Person.

When Eastern State first opened, it was praised for its revolutionary design, which allowed a single guard standing in the central rotunda a clear view of every cellblock. As the penitentiary evolved over time, so did its approach to security, surveillance, and supervision.

Membership Specialist Connor Feeney will lead a tour of Eastern State’s iconic radial plan design, share some of the security triumphs and failures of the penitentiary throughout history, and discuss how evolving technology eventually made the facility obsolete.

Please Note: This event will take place in person at Eastern State. Space is limited. Portions of this tour include steep stairs; however, these sections of the route can be easily bypassed. Attendees should wear comfortable, closed-toed walking shoes.

This event is free for all members. Reserve free tickets online or call 215-236-5111 x224.
