Eastern State's Winter Adventure Tours include the cellblocks, center surveillance hub, Al Capone's Cell, and more. Admission includes an hour-long guided tour or a self-guided audio tour. Also included are Hands-On History interactive experiences and a critically acclaimed series of artist installations.
Eastern State Penitentiary is beautiful in the stark, cold months of winter. But as striking as the unheated building is, it's also very cold. We recommend dressing for the weather, minus ten degrees. Bundle up!
An hour-long tour led by an expert Eastern State guide. The tour route changes to accommodate the weather, but may include the cellblocks, center surveillance hub, Al Capone's cell, and Death Row.
Tour times are as follows:
Weekdays: 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, 4 pm
Weekends: Every hour 10 am to 4 pm
We encourage visitors to purchase tickets for guided tours in advance online. Guided tour tickets are also available at the door, subject to availability.
The long-abandoned cellblocks come alive with sounds of daily life inside the ancient prison. "The Voices of Eastern State" Audio Tour is narrated by actor Steve Buscemi and features the voices of 28 former officers and inmates. (Weather permitting.)

The small ticketing office and center surveillance hub (mid-point of the tours) are heated to about 60 degrees, but the rest of the property remains totally unheated. We recommend dressing for the weather, minus ten degrees. Bundle up!
We recommend purchasing tickets online in advance. Tickets are also available at the door, subject to availability. There are no guarantees, however, and many guided tours (especially on weekends) sell out in advance.

Photography is allowed, as long as it does not distract or delay the group. Tripods may not be used during the tour.
