Eastern State Participates in Drexel University Co-op Program

Amber Holden facilitated the beginning of the Drexel co-op program at Eastern State on her own initiative. Her organizational skills were essential to the staff as a whole, especially during the busy grant writing season. She also helped organize the process for artist selection for the 2001 season.

In March of 2002, Andrea Hallowell, a communications major, joined the staff. She helped in organize and host a series of workshops of museum educators, some from other prison museums. Andrea also trained to become part of Eastern’s tour guide staff and continued as a tour guide throughout the 2002 season.

Amanda Congar, also a communications major, is the current intern at Eastern. She has worked on many exciting public relations assignments at Eastern State so far, such as meeting with representatives from the media and assisting special interest groups and celebrities during their visit to the site. Amanda will also train to become a tour guide in the near future.

In only one short year, Eastern State has grown to be a very popular co-op prospect for Drexel students. It all began with one ambitious and curious student and now the staff is preparing to review an excess of fifty student resumes for the upcoming co-op season. The relationship that Eastern State and Drexel have created is one that is both exciting and enduring.
